Students entering our Sixth Form will be working at Entry Level 3 up to Level 2. Where students have reached Level 2 (GCSE 4) by the end of Year 11, we would be encouraging those students to look at alternative provisions as their next step. This may be a move to a local college or a Sixth Form within another local school.

The qualification encourages learners to develop a more ‘hands on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in vocational areas. This qualification aims to: Equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for working life beyond education. Students will have started this qualification in Key Stage 4 and will extend this to Diploma in Sixth Form. The qualification is made up of a variety of units across a range of occupational areas: - Land-based Studies - Construction and Engineering - Hospitality and Catering - Design, Media and Technology - Office and Business - Retail and Service Enterprise - Sport, Leisure and Tourism - Employability and Social Development Units will be covered by through a mixture of work experience and work skills lessons.

Pathfinder at Snowfield Academy aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they will need to enter the workforce and lead useful and productive lives. Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Retail Operations

This qualification is designed for learners who are looking to enter, or progress within, employment in the hospitality sector. It will enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding of excellence in customer service for the hospitality sector.&nbsp; This qualification will enable learners to develop an understanding of:&nbsp; • communicating with customers in the hospitality sector • teamwork in the hospitality sector&nbsp; • professional standards and personal development&nbsp; • legislation and regulations relating to customer service delivery in the hospitality sector This qualification consists of 4 mandatory units: - Unit 01 Principles of customer service in the hospitality sector&nbsp; - Unit 02 Understand effective teamwork in the hospitality sector&nbsp; - Unit 03 Understand legislation and guidance relevant to the hospitality sector&nbsp; - Unit 04 Understand professional personal standards in the hospitality sector

Students at Snowfields Pathfinder will be preparing to enter the world of work and will therefore be expected to wear appropriate clothing for the workplace. Pathfinder will have a professional 'business wear' uniform expectation.&nbsp;&nbsp; This includes: Smart blue or black trousers or skirt&nbsp; Shirt/blouse&nbsp; Suit jacket or smart jumper Smart dress shoes For practical courses students may wear the Pathfinder polo-shirt with smart blue or black trousers or skirt. No Tracksuits tops or bottoms, leggings, white trainers, short skirts, low cut or strappy tops.

Where students have not yet achieved Level 2 or equivalent in English or Maths: Students will continue to study towards their Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths in Year 12 and 13 - this will ensure that students leave our provision with the necessary qualifications to enter the world of work or further study. Where students have achieved either or English or Maths and require further study for just one subject: Students will join the relevant subject group to continue their course up to Level 2. During the time set aside for the subject they do not need to study they will have the following opportunities: - Continue study to a higher level - eg. Level 2 English &gt; GCSE English Language - Complete work experience through our onsite facilities (cafe/farm etc...) - Complete an ILP qualification Independent Learning Projects (ILP): - Work on essential life skills through the Barclay's Life Skills - Complete a Mental Health First Aid qualification. - Complete a Level 2 Certificate in Developing Enterprise Skills qualification

Students attending Snowfields Pathfinder will have the opportunity to:&nbsp; Continue study of their core subjects - English and Maths up to Level 2 or equivalent&nbsp; Where English or Maths has been achieved - to study for a Independent Learning Project in either Enterprise and/or Mental Health First Aid. Take two ‘choice subjects’ up to Level 2 - which focus on entrance to the workplace. Complete NCFE Level 2 Relationships, Sex and Health Education to promote an understanding of positive relationships. Undertake activities that prepare students for the world of work and increase their resilience in using problem solving skills. Take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme - building on skills for life, positive mental health and active lifestyles.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

This qualification covers a range of key subject areas that provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to care for and educate children aged between 0 and 11 years 11 months old. This qualification aims to: • provide an introduction at Level 2 for learners into both early years and primary settings.&nbsp; The objective of this qualification is to: &nbsp;• support learners as they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years 11 months. This qualification consists of 6 mandatory units:&nbsp; - Unit 01 Child development from birth to 11 years 11 months - Unit 02 Play and learning&nbsp; - Unit 03 Exploring legislation - Unit 04 The role of the childcare practitioner - Unit 05 Nutrition&nbsp; - Unit 06 Physical development and physical activity Learners will also undertake a work experience placement as part of this course.&nbsp;

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge that is required to work in a range of environments in a business administration role. Learners will know how to carry out administrative tasks such as managing information and supporting events and will be able to apply their knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles. This qualification aims to:&nbsp; • provide learners with the underpinning knowledge that is required by employees to work in a range of different environments in a business administration role.&nbsp; The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:&nbsp; • develop essential knowledge of how to carry out administrative tasks such as how to manage information and supporting events&nbsp; • know how to apply their knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles. This qualification consists of 6 mandatory units: - Unit 01 Principles of providing administrative services&nbsp; - Unit 02 Principles of business document production and information management&nbsp; - Unit 03 Understand communication in a business environment&nbsp; - Unit 04 Understand employer organisations&nbsp; - Unit 05 Understand how to develop working relationships with colleague And a further 16 optional units of which learners need to complete a minimum of 2.

As part of the offer that Snowfields Pathfinders will provide, students will have the opportunity to complete work experience in the local community. Students will be encouraged and facilitated by the Pathfinders team and will learn independent working skills.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students will complete a work experience diary as part of their placement which provides prompts to help them reflect upon what they have learned during their work experience, alongside some top tips on how to create the right impression while on their placement. Students will be supported by staff throughout their placement including using public transport, school buses, appropriate interactions and their wellbeing.&nbsp; Work placements will happen for one day per week - students may have one or more placements during the year depending on the courses they wish to pursue.&nbsp; Placements will be arranged by the school - however, if students have a contact that they wish to work with, the school will support them in making contact and following the correct procedures.&nbsp;

Question: What routes are available to my child once they leave Snowfield Pathfinder? Answer: During their time in Pathfinder, students will be preparing for their next steps. Students could be looking at: Further study - moving onto a college to access specialised Level 3 qualifications Apprenticeships - where appropriate we will support students in finding apprenticeships in their local community and preparing them for entering the workforce. Entering the workforce - where students have achieved a Level 2 qualification, they may feel ready to enter into paid employment. We will support students in writing their CV, applying for jobs and preparing for interviews.&nbsp; Our aim is that all students move onto an appropriate pathway for their future aspirations.&nbsp;

Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Business Administration

Students will study all courses on the Core Subject list and the Preparation for Life list. They will then make a choice of one course in each column. Choice courses are coursework/portfolio based and are internally assessed, followed by an external Quality Assurance process.&nbsp; This allows students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge creatively; showing their understanding of the success criteria through written assignments, practical tasks and professional discussion.&nbsp; Students will receive a pass mark at Level 2 which can be used on a CV to seek employment in the future.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Question: Will Snowfields Pathfinder provide A-Level and Level 3 qualifications? Answer: No, Pathfinder will equip students with Level 2 qualifications which prepare students to leave our provision and enter employment or further training. If a student achieves their Level 2 or equivalent (GCSE 4) in English and Maths, they should consider moving to a provision that will provide them with the next steps on their educational journey.&nbsp; Question: Will my child have the opportunity to visit Post 16 provisions? Answer: Yes, we will support students through planned trips to see Post 16 provisions. However, we recommend that as a family, you also visit appropriate colleges so that you can support your child in making the correct decision for their next steps.&nbsp; Question - What if my child achieves their Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths but they are not ready to move onto another provision? Answer - We will look at each student on a case by case basis. If your child has achieved their Level 2s in English/Maths and a more suitable placement can offer the relevant next steps, we will work with you to manage a transition to another provision.&nbsp; However, if we agree that a student is best placed in Pathfinder, then we will provide a functional application curriculum for English and Maths during those lessons.&nbsp;

Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings

This qualification is designed for those seeking employment in the retail industry. This qualification aims to:&nbsp; • provide an introduction to the retail industry to those new to or seeking employment in this area&nbsp; • help learners develop an understanding of the different aspects of working in the retail sector&nbsp; • prepare learners for progression into a range of higher level qualifications within the retail sector, including more practical qualifications where their knowledge can be put into practice. This qualification consists of 6 mandatory units:&nbsp; - Unit 01 Understanding customer service in the retail sector&nbsp; - Unit 02 Understanding the retail selling process&nbsp; - Unit 03 Understanding how individuals and teams contribute to the effectiveness of a retail business&nbsp; - Unit 04 Understanding how a retail business maintains health and safety on its premises - Unit 05 Understanding retail consumer law&nbsp; - Unit 06 Understand how to deal with customer queries and complaints in a retail environment And a further 12 optional units of which learners need to complete a minimum of 4.&nbsp;
