A hurricane is a storm that is very dangerous and can hurt people. Hurricanes come with a lot of rain and cause flooding and destruction. Hurricanes form during hurricane season which is from June 1st to November 30th.
Hurricanes are created in the Atlantic ocean. They are storms that have the fastest winds of all. They bring in strong rain that can cause flooding. People should find shelter right away somewhere where they can stay safe. If there is a hurricane, people should not be outside or in any vehicle because hurricanes have strong winds that go as fast as 74 miles per hour. These winds are so strong that they can lift cars and flip them over. They can cause very bad injuries.
This year, many doctors and scientists have been so focused on COVID-19. But some scientists have been focusing on this hurricane season instead. The hurricanes started early on May 17, 2020. Since then, there have been a lot of hurricanes happening in 2020.
Did you know that scientists name each storm? This year they ran out of names for them. That means there are a lot of them happening. Scientists use 21 letters from the English alphabet to name storms. Storm Wilfred took the last name on the 2020 list. Now scientists are using Greek names for the newer hurricanes that are forming. Alpha and Beta are the most recents storms that were named by scientists.
There is a month or so left of hurricane season. There is a chance of a bit more hurricanes happening before the season ends. It is important to stay inside and safe when hurricanes storms pass through. In San Antonio, we can have strong rain when hurricanes pass by Texas. Thankfully, San Antonio, Texas does not get any major damage from hurricanes.

The time has come for citizens to vote in the 2020 presidential election. Voting is a civic duty, so all eligible citizens should cast their vote. Voting allows people to choose which candidate will best lead the country as the President of the United States of America. This is an opportunity for citizens to let their voice be heard.
There are two main political parties which include the Republican Party and the Democractic Party. The two candidates for the presidential election this year are Former Vice President Joe Biden (Democrat) and our current President Donald Trump (Republican). Some people choose to vote based on a candidate’s political party alone, but some people may choose to vote based on who they like or who they think is the best choice for president.
In the United States, all citizens have the right to vote in all elections. Voters need to be 18 years or older on Election Day in order to participate. Voters will need their voter registration card and state identification card or driver’s license to vote. If voters do not have a voter registration card, they will need to register to vote.
Voters can go to a polling site to cast their vote in person, or they can mail in a ballot to cast their vote. Every citizen can only vote one time per election. To ensure there are no online hackers changing people’s votes, people cannot vote online. Eligible voters can cast their vote during early voting or on Election Day. Early voting for the 2020 presidential election began on October 13th and will end on October 30, 2020. Election Day is November 3, 2020.
Participating in elections is very important. Citizens must not miss their chance to let their voice be heard. Encourage someone to vote today. Remind them they will get a special sticker if they do!

It's the second most wonderful time of the year! Halloween 2020 is just around the corner. The coronavirus pandemic has changed the lives of many people, but there are still many ways to celebrate Halloween this year.
A long time ago, people would light big fires and wear costumes to scare away ghosts. In time, Halloween turned into a special day for trick-or-treating, dressing in costumes, and pumpkin carving. Even this year, people plan to celebrate Halloween. It just might look a little bit different.
One way to practice Halloween safety this year is to wash your hands before and after trick-or-treating. If you go trick-or-treating, you need to be sure to wear a mask, but you may want to avoid trick-or-treating since it exposes you to other people. You can still celebrate by carving pumpkins, watching Halloween movies, and
eating snacks and candy with your family.
Even if you are careful about COVID-19, you need to still follow basic safety rules for Halloween night. If you go trick-or-treating, have someone 18 years or older come with you. Be careful with the candy you eat by having an adult check it.
Corn mazes or candy corn? It is up to you to decide how you want to celebrate this spooky season this year. Just remember to stay safe and have fun!
This ninja costume includes a face covering which protects from COVID-19. This pumpkin wears a mask to show the importance of masks this Halloween season

There is a Monster in my Room!

Comic Panel 1
By: Jazmine
One night, a girl named Stephanie was brushing her teeth while getting ready for bed. Stephanie’s mom had told her to clean up her room before going to bed.
When Stephanie finished brushing her teeth, she went into her room and saw that her bed was full of clothes and stuffed animals. Instead of cleaning her room like her mom told her to, she just threw all of the clothes and stuffed animals into the corner of her room by her nightlight.
Stephanie went and turned off the main light in her, and it was dark. She couldn’t see anything because of how dark her room was, so she stumbled through the darkness to go turn on the nightlight.
After she turned on her nightlight, she turned around and saw a huge shadow on her wall. She thought it was a monster! Stephanie screamed and then ran and jumped into bed and hid under her blanket. Stephanie’s mom quickly ran to Stephanie’s room, turned on the lights, and asked frightened Stephanie what was wrong and why she was screaming.
Stephanie said to her mom, “there’s a monster in my room!”. Stephanie’s mom
asked her where she saw the monster because she did not see the monster Stephanie was talking about.
Stephanie told her mom that the monster was just there, but it must have ran away when the main light was turned on. Mom told Stephanie, “let’s see if the monster comes back when we turn the lights on.” Mom turned off the main light and suddenly the huge shadow Stephanie thought was a monster was back on the wall. Stephanie screamed, “See, there it is!”.
Stephanie’s mom looked over at the corner of the room and saw the pile of clothes and stuffed animals that Stephanie had thrown on the floor instead of cleaning them up like she was supposed to. Her mom noticed that one of the stuffed animals was sitting right in front of the nightlight and was casting a huge shadow on the wall making Stephanie think it was a monster.
Mom turned on the main light and said to Stephanie, “I see what’s happening. One of your stuffed animals is sitting in front of your nightlight. When the main light is turned off, the shadow of the stuffed animal is being cast on to the wall!”.
Stephanie got out of bed and put her clothes and stuffed animals away. After Stephanie finished cleaning, she got back into bed and her mom tucked her in. When Stephanie’s mom turned off the main light, the huge shadow was no longer on the wall in her room.
Stephanie overcame her fear because she learned there was no monster in her room. Stephanie told her mom goodnight and went to sleep. She slept peacefully.

Looking for a fun getaway to do with family and friends? Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch seems like a great place to go! The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is located in Texas close to San Antonio and has been around for more than 100 years. It sits on 400-acres and has many animals from every continent except Antarctica. Animals at the ranch that you may run into include the Blue Bull, Zebras, Rhinos, Longhorns, Peacock, Reticulated Giraffe, and much more. This unique place is a safe place for more than 500 animals which represents more than 40 species.
The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is considered one of the best drive-thru Safaris in Texas. 500,000 people visit it each year. In the comfort of your vehicle, for less than $26 a person, you can drive over six miles through the beautiful park and see animals you wouldn’t have imagined seeing anywhere else. You can feed these animals if you buy proper food from the park employees, as you cannot bring outside food to feed the animals since they are on special diets. Once you begin your self-guided tour, it can take an hour to an hour and a half to drive through once. Once you travel through the park once, visitors are allowed to travel through the Wildlife Ranch as many times as they would like during their visit.
The animals within Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch are free to roam. Just remember, since these animals are considered “wild” you enter the park at your own risk. It is important to not have your doors open at any time or ride in the back of your pickup truck. They will come up to your car window as you hold out the proper food as they know each car has plenty of food to go around. Just watch out! Make sure you don’t get bit by one of these big exotic animals.
When you are done on your self-guided tour, you can enjoy a lunch at the Safari Camp Grill and some dessert at the Safari Sweet Spot. We hear their Texas waffles or pancakes with syrup and tea are delicious! There are also other attractions you can take a look at like the Koi Pond and the Petting Barnyard. When you are done visiting these attractions you can stop by the souvenir store to buy yourself or your friend a memory. Does this sound like a fun getaway after all? Grab your family or your friends and head out to this great place to visit!
