Introduction

In the middle ages.For over 500 years we were trying to adjust with this really deadly virus which is the Black Death. This pandemic has changed our lives,our way of living.We are dying because of this virus. We have been wearing masks for sometime. But for others mostly in Europe 45 to 80 million were infected and killed.

This book explores the history of pandemics, in the first chapter we will have all about pandemics and the subheadings will be what causes a pandemic and epidemic, The first pandemic, Recent pandemic, and our last one how being subheadings will be about when it started, how it started, which countries did it spread to, what happens if you get infected by it, the symptoms. Our third chapter will be about a story about me getting the black death, and our last chapter will be about the Black Death again but as an essay.

What is a pandemic and Epidemic
What causes a pandemic and epidemic
   Pandemic or epidemic are caused when food or water is infected by a
Disease. For example, typhus, black death, malaria, and covid-19. The disease can be harmful or non harmful. Pandemics are caused when the whole world gets it but an epidemic is when only a country gets it. For example, the covid-19 is a disease that caused the recent pandemic but the Black Death from the middle ages was and it was mostly actually a pandemic.

The First Pandemic
   The first pandemic was the H1N1 flu. The first appearance was in the year 1918-1919. People suffered from a sudden or very high fever, dry cough, headaches and body aches, sore throat, chills, runny nose, loss of appetite, and also extreme tiredness(fatigue).The H1N1 infected healthy adults 15 to 34 years of adult age. It also infected youngsters at the age of five years old,20 to 40 years old, 65 years and older. The animal that caused this virus is a wild waterfowl.

Recent Pandemic
   The recent pandemic we are dealing with right now from 2019-2023 is the new coronavirus or covid-19. There are four ,major variants from covid Alpha,Beta,Delta,Omicron. Delta is the most deadliest variant out of all of them. It is the most deadly because it can silently replicate themselves, also it replicates fast and spreads more easily than others. In other words replicate means that it can copy itself multiple times. Covid-19 is not that harmful sometimes. Take Omicron as an example. It is not that harmful to kids but it can sometimes be harmful to adults. Sometimes it can(Omicron) lead to death to adults if not treated and sometimes even if treated, can still lead to death sometimes.

How Quarantining Cures You
   It cures people because if someone gets infected they are in their houses because they are quarantined but if someone in the house gets infected the are in the house so it can not spread to others outside.It will help us get better because the virus cannot spread and the treatment that the doctor gave can work and the virus will die.

Black Death
When it Started
   During the 1347 to 1350 the black plague/bubonic/black death. But to be exact it came in October.

How it Started
   It decimated the army of Kipchak Khan. They were from China. Jani Beg catapulted plague infected corpses in an effort to infect enemies. The ships carried an epidemic westward at the Mediterranean ports. Twelve ships came to Venice, Italy from the black sea. Finally,my last reason why the Black Death is the deadliest plague is because it may cause horrible symptoms. Some deadly symptoms that your tissues on your fingertips will blacken because your tissues on your fingertips are dead.

Which Countries Did It Spread Too
   In (1347) it spread across North Africa, Mainland Italy, Spain, France
   In (1348) it spread across thousands of miles including Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, Dorset, and other low countries

What Happens If You Get Infected By It
   Once you get infected by the bubonic plague or the bacteria that caused the bubonic plague yersinia pestis it will enter the bloodstream which is the stream that carries our blood all the way through your body. It will also travel to your liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs, and the brain. There are two types of pandemics Pneumonic and Septicemic, pneumonic plagues infects lungs and septicemic plagues mostly infects the blood stream. The black death was a pneumonic and both a bubonic plague because some of the symptoms were easy to escape but some were not.

Symptoms
   The symptoms of once you get the black death is that you will get a fever, you will feel nothing but weakness, You will quickly develop shaking chills, diarrhea, and a lot of pain. You will also get buboes in your groins and armpits. Your tissue on your nose and fingertips will be blackened because they are dead. If you were too weak you would vomit out blood.

How Did The Black Death End
   The Black Death never really ended but the cases got lower after people started using popper hygiene and washing their hands and taking care of themselves. But even if the people are using popper hygiene they still didn’t eliminate it. It is still around in parts of Asia and parts of America in both South and North. In the 1860s Waldemar Mordecai Haffkine made a cure/vaccine for the Black Death. The president and the people were happy and proud of him because he found a cure for it and now people won’t have to worry about dying from it so he got a trophy in 1860. But once he died on 26th of October in 1930 after he died the black death spread even more than the time he was alive.

Historical Fiction Story
I woke up at 9:00am. I was late for school because I overslept but when I was getting out of bed I felt so weak and had a really bad fever. I also felt like I couldn’t breathe well.I called my mom about what happened and when she was coming to my room.

She screamed “AAAHHH!” when she looked at me. I looked at myself and I was terrified to see that my fingertips were black. When I was about to run out of bed and look at myself I started vomiting blood. It was a really terrifying moment. I felt something was not right against my groin so I checked between them. When I look to see there buboes on my groins that were as big as a guava so they filled up most of my pants.

I showed it to my mom and my mom fainted. I didn't know what to do. My dad was at the office and my baby sister just charged into my room. I ran away from her because if I was close to her she would get infected too! I Then realized I had yersinia pestis which killed millions of people during the middle ages.So I tried to wake my mother up and luckily she woke up. We went to the doctor with my baby sister by running there and I gotta stay in the hospital for as long as I get cured. So I asked the doctor to get an antibiotic to cure me so he did and he forgot about it so that is why he said to me to stay in the hospital for as long as I get cured. So the doctor gave me an antibiotic shot on my arm and I felt better. After some days of going to the doctor to get antibiotic shots I got cured and started to go back to school and my work everyday and it felt normal again. I felt lucky to be alive even after I got the Black Death/ bubonic plague/ or you can call it the pneumonic plague or the bubonic plague.There is also one more type which is the septicemic plague. (pneumonic plague mostly infects lungs and septicemic plague mostly infects the blood stream).

Essay Black Death
Did you know that scientists estimated that 75 to 200 million people died from the Black Death? The Black Death hasn’t just been very harmful and dangerous it has been a nightmare for most of the people who heard about it. I believe that the Black Death should be the deadliest disease. The black death was one of the deadliest plagues in history because doctors didn’t know much about the cure. It killed many people during the middle ages, and caused horrible symptoms.

   One reason the Black Death was so deadly was because doctors didn’t know much about it. At the time of the middle ages doctors weren’t really intelligent because they didn’t have that much knowledge about mostly anything so when a new virus came they weren’t really ready for it. They mostly tried to do things that were dangerous without even thinking about it. So, that is why I kind of think that the doctors before were kind of uneducated. When they found out about the virus, the black death came to the doctors instead of figuring out a vaccine for it, they just panicked and didn’t find a cure or vaccine for it. Everyone in Europe panicked about it because they thought that they would die. They tried bloodletting because they wanted to let all the blood come out with the virus but it was dangerous. They also tried herbs but that didn’t work too they also tried using leeches to drink the blood all out with the virus Black Death. Not the last but the last thing that they tried even though there are still some other things what I am going to say is that some doctors also tried to use leeches to out the blood with the virus but it didn’t work because even though leeches drained out some of the virus it didn’t drain all of them out (yersinia pestis). Doctors didn’t even know where it came from! The only evidence they had was how it came and it came by a ship.

   Another reason the Black Death was so deadly is because it killed many people. During the middle ages in 1348 the black death ⅓ of Europe and then it killed ⅔ of Europe. 50 to 80 million were infected during the pandemic. It was a terrifying time for Europeans. Most of them suffered a lot. It killed between 30% and 60% of all Europeans during the 1300. The interesting idea about the Black Death is that even most people agree that the Black Death might be the deadliest in history and research shows that scientists do believe that the Black Death might be the deadliest disease because it was hard to escape from. The black killed a lot of people. Since the burials were filling so fast some bodies were left out for days. Some rotted after some days because the organs inside the body were dying. More and more people kept dying and less and less people were there in Europe than before the black death. But the good thing was that people that farmers before they died their crops died too. So, people who were alive that were farming got more money than before. Author Jim Ollhaff said that “Scientists use insecticides to effectively kill the fleas that can spread the Black Death”. Virginia Loh-Hagan,in the book Surviving history The plague she says that”Giovanni Boccaccio lived from 1313 to 1375 and he survived the Black Death during the 1300s”. 80 to 90 percent of the village people died. The population in Europe went down to 475 million to 350 million. 800 bodies were buried per day because of the Black Death.

   Finally, my last reason why the Black Death is the deadliest in history is because it may cause horrible symptoms. During the time when the black death was really deadly it could cause different and can vary the symptoms depending on the victim or host. The symptoms of black death are pain, weakness,chills, diarrhea, tiredness, vomiting blood if too tired to get out of bed, blacked skin on fingertips and on nose because the tissue on your fingertips are dead, and also red or black rashes. It means the blood inside your body is dead and not fresh anymore.

   Many people think that it is okay not to know because doctors will handle it, but I think it is better to know if a virus is harmful or not because it might be the first time dealing with the virus so doctors and scientists might not know about it. You should also be careful because people might not have any prior knowledge about it, and it may cause horrible or terrifying symptoms that we don’t know about. People who oppose the Black Death are not the deadliest disease in history because it didn’t really kill the whole of Europe. Even though it didn’t really infect Europe that much it still destroyed a whole lot of other countries. I hope you agree that the Black Death is the deadliest in history because doctors didn’t know much about it, it killed many people, and it may cause horrible symptoms.
