A Message from
Mr Walsh
Dear Parents and Guardians,
What an exciting term we have had here at North Dublin Muslim National School. This term has seen us continue to grow as a community. We have welcomed over 90 new children and six new staff members to the school this year, and have grown to 16 mainstream classrooms for the first time.
We were delighted to host several parent coffee mornings this term; it has been great to see so many of you at the school for these. We have taken the first steps to re-establish our Parent Association, and we look forward to working with the PA committee throughout the year. A massive thank you to the parents who have agreed to get involved with the committee. We will be exploring other ways of getting parents involved more in day-to-day school activities as the year goes on.
Our Student Council and our Wellbeing Committee have been working tirelessly this term. Classes have been well represented by their reps, who have put forward great ideas to improve our school, and have led fundraisers for Muslim Sisters of Éire and Islamic Relief. Plans to create a sensory garden at the school are at an early stage, and I’m sure the Wellbeing Committee will keep us up-to-date on those developments and how we can help.
Needless to say, a huge amount of hard work has taken place in classrooms this term. Children have been working extremely hard, and this can be seen in the work they are producing and their engagement in lessons. So many children have already received certificates of achievement during our weekly awards and monthly assemblies, and we know that there will be many more on the way in terms two and three! Our return to in-person assemblies has also given classes an opportunity to perform for each other, and we have had some fantastic performances so far this year – we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

All of the children are well settled in and it feels like they have been here at NDMNS forever! We have been working hard on our fine motor skills with lots of fun hands-on activities to help support our froggy fingers for excellent handwriting skills. We have learned lots of phonics and can already read some simple words by sounding out and blending together our known sounds. We have even started our very first reader in our English stations in class. We are also working hard on our cursive writing. It is very tricky, but with continued practice at school and home, we will be experts in no time!
We have worked hard on lots of number work, number formation, number order, and sets of numbers. We have learned two and three subject patterns and learned about length as well as 2D and 3D shapes. We even designed our very own scary shape monsters. Children have enjoyed many art activities from autumn to winter themes, as well as including the restaurant and space themes we have studied during our aistear playtime.
We were also very lucky to have Peered Reading and science experiments with students from the 3rd class coming to visit us on Fridays.
Children's friendships are continuing to grow and develop, as are the pupil's own confidence, organisational and communication skills. The daily routine is well established and the children all deserve a well-earned Winter break. Wishing everyone a nice break and see you all safely in the new year fit and healthy inshallah :)

Junior Infants Yellow & Ms O'Hara
What a fantastic start to the year!
I want to begin by saying how proud I am to be teaching such a wonderful bunch in Junior Infants Yellow this year! They are all as friendly, hardworking, and full of character as each other! Every day is an adventure that I can't wait to start. This term we have been super busy - the children have settled into school very well and I am thrilled to see that they made so many great friendships so early in the year, we really are like one big team!
Maths:
The children have been super busy working away as Mathematicians learning all about sorting, making, and matching sets. As well as that they have spent time investigating with measurements, making estimations, and then getting hands-on and measuring to see how accurate they were. They have also truly enjoyed Ready, Set, Go stations and playing the wonderful games that help them to understand numbers.
Language:
I am very impressed by how quickly the children have taken to learning their sounds and using their initial sounds to blend and sound out small CVC words and begin their road to reading. They have also shown great work on their fine motor skill development and have really gotten the hang of correct pencil control and using the ''Froggy Finger Grip".
In Gaeilge, the children have made huge improvements, and they have been making lots of effort to greet each other and Ms. O'Hara in Gaeilge and say Slán at hometime! They have great retention for the vocab that they have learned and love to sing all the Irish songs that they have learned.
SESE:
The children have really enjoyed SESE so far this year, they especially enjoy Science and getting to do Science experiments. We have been super lucky this year to come together with our friends in Junior Infants Red to do some large-group science experiments. Recently, we all enjoyed a trip to the hall to learn all about static electricity and even conducted our own to make tissue paper butterflies flap their wings! How exciting!!
Aistear:
Without a doubt, Aistear time is a keen favourite with all of the class! During Aistear the children have gotten a chance to explore different themes such as; The Restaurant, At Home, and most recently, Space and Winter. In Aistear the children have the option to take part in many different activities of structured play such as; the Sand Table, Roleplay, Art, Building, and many more. Aistear is a great time for the children to learn to work on their social skills and learn how to develop their oral language, reasoning, and discussion skills in a playful environment.
We can't wait to see what adventures await us in the next term.
