Dear Parents and Guardians,What an exciting term we have had here at North Dublin Muslim National School. This term has seen us continue to grow as a community. We have welcomed over 90 new children and six new staff members to the school this year, and have grown to 16 mainstream classrooms for the first time.
We were delighted to host several parent coffee mornings this term; it has been great to see so many of you at the school for these. We have taken the first steps to re-establish our Parent Association, and we look forward to working with the PA committee throughout the year. A massive thank you to the parents who have agreed to get involved with the committee. We will be exploring other ways of getting parents involved more in day-to-day school activities as the year goes on.
Our Student Council and our Wellbeing Committee have been working tirelessly this term. Classes have been well represented by their reps, who have put forward great ideas to improve our school, and have led fundraisers for Muslim Sisters of Éire and Islamic Relief. Plans to create a sensory garden at the school are at an early stage, and I’m sure the Wellbeing Committee will keep us up-to-date on those developments and how we can help.
Needless to say, a huge amount of hard work has taken place in classrooms this term. Children have been working extremely hard, and this can be seen in the work they are producing and their engagement in lessons. So many children have already received certificates of achievement during our weekly awards and monthly assemblies, and we know that there will be many more on the way in terms two and three! Our return to in-person assemblies has also given classes an opportunity to perform for each other, and we have had some fantastic performances so far this year – we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
I hope that this term’s newsletter gives you a sense of the amazing work that happens at the school each and every day. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter (@ndmns) for the latest news from school.
Wishing you all a wonderful Winter Break!

Hello from Junior Infants Red :)
All of the children are well settled in and it feels like they have been here at NDMNS forever! We have been working hard on our fine motor skills with lots of fun hands-on activities to help support our froggy fingers for excellent handwriting skills. We have learned lots of phonics and can already read some simple words by sounding out and blending together our known sounds. We have even started our very first reader in our English stations in class. We are also working hard on our cursive writing. It is very tricky, but with continued practice at school and home, we will be experts in no time!
We have worked hard on lots of number work, number formation, number order, and sets of numbers. We have learned two and three subject patterns and learned about length as well as 2D and 3D shapes. We even designed our very own scary shape monsters. Children have enjoyed many art activities from autumn to winter themes, as well as including the restaurant and space themes we have studied during our aistear playtime.
We were also very lucky to have Peered Reading and science experiments with students from the 3rd class coming to visit us on Fridays.
Children's friendships are continuing to grow and develop, as are the pupil's own confidence, organisational and communication skills. The daily routine is well established and the children all deserve a well-earned Winter break. Wishing everyone a nice break and see you all safely in the new year fit and healthy inshallah :)

We have had a fantastic first term in Senior Infants Pink!
In Literacy, we revised most of our letter sounds. We have been working so hard to practice blending letters to read and write words. We have also been spending lots of time learning our Dolch Words and practicing putting them into sentences. There has been such an improvement in all the boy’s and girl’s reading and writing. This term, the children in 4 th class read stories to the Senior Infants, this was brilliant and the Senior Infants loved hearing new stories!
In Maths, we have had so much fun playing Ready, Set, Go games at our weekly stations with Ms.Lydon. We have learned to count, to order numbers, to make sets for each number and to sort various sets and describe them. We also learned about 2D and 3D shapes. During STEM week, we did a shape hunt around the school to look for different shapes we could find. The boys and girls found so many shapes around the school and drew what they found.
Our play themes this term were The Doctor’s Surgery, The Hospital, Goldilocks’ and the Three Bears and the Opticians. Everyone in the class was amazing at playing in role as doctors, nurses, opticians, customers and patients. We did lots of artwork for each of these themes and the children loved making glasses for the Opticians. We even got to perform our role play of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in groups for each other! During our play time, we worked on our writing at the free writing station, we made Jigsaws and created constructions using blocks.
In SESE, we explored the season of Autumn. We had so much fun on our nature walk and collected lots of things to put on our investigation station. The children found conkers, leaves, acorns, and sycamore seeds. During Stem week, we completed experiments with the 4th class and got the chance
to play board games they created for us! I am so proud of everyone’s progress this term. I am really excited for another great term after Winter break and wish everyone a happy winter break!
Well done everyone!
