“Let’s STEaM… Pompei and Thessaloniki up!”
A.S. 2019/2020

This ebook is meant to be the expression of a final collaborative work in which the union of the two different cultures is contextualised through the adventures of Demetrious, a noble Greek man who lived in Naples area for some time.
The story started by the Greek students has been resumed by the Italian students who have brought their imagination to life after finding information on Greek footprints in our area.
This activity had been planned to be carried out in synchrony by the two groups during the visit to our historical and archeological  sites but unfortunately due to the coronavirus lockdown it has been  done asynchronously.
The Italian students involved in the project have worked on it through remote classes.They have made up stories following the story- making strategy. They have learned to imagine, make and share stories as well as they have learned new descriptive words in order to describe  the way of living  at that time.
Taking inspiration from the material they have found on the internet they have enjoyed to organise the information to reconstruct the setting for Demetrious adventures.

“THE STOLEN GOODS”

Once upon a time there was a young noble man, called Demetrious. He lived in Thessaloniki and was a rich merchant travelling a lot selling amphoras and other vases to Naples and Pompeii.
It was summer of the year 79 AD

His house was just opposite the place where the Arch of Galerius was to be built after 200 years...

It was a sunny Monday when Demetrious decided to go to the Roman Forum in order to buy some amphoras and sell them to Pompeii.

After buying his amphoras, he left for Pompeii and after a tortuous journey he arrived in Naples. As soon as he got off the ship he was surrounded by a great number of merchants, all interested in selling their products. Surrounded by the crowd, he lost sight of his amphoras and he could no longer find them: someone had stolen them!. He was desperate and he didn't know what to do so he thought to go immediately to his friend Plinius, who lived in Stabiae, in the famous VILLA ARIANNA,to ask him for help. 

Together they set out in search of the stolen amphoras. They went to VILLA SAN MARCO to be sure that the amphoras had not been resold to that villa.

While searching for stolen goods Demetrious was fascinated by two of frescoes in the villa: the PLANISPHERE 

and the APOTHEOSIS of ATHENA

Since they could not find anything they went to the VILLA of ANTEROS and HERCULES, but even here their search was useless

They were both desperate but they knew there was still a villa to go looking for: VILLA CARMIANO and surprise! In the garden they found a large chest with perfectly preserved precious amphoras!
