This book includes 13 math projects that you can use in your classroom, each one tied to the Common Core standards. These projects can be easily modified to meet your teaching styles. Students can engage in any of the projects individually or collaboratively.

Some ideas to get you started

We see this reflected in the trends of the most popular video games (e.g. Minecraft and Fortnite). It seems kids like to create! Therefore, we as educators have to find a way to incorporate creation opportunities into our classes and Book Creator can help to do that.

1. Counting and Cardinality

Students can explore counting and cardinality by using the shapes tool.

With Book Creator, students can take pictures of
blocks and shapes that they have placed in different groups and counted.

Make a “Watch Me Count” book to capture everything students have learned about this topic.

For a “Watch Me Count” activity, students can explore learning how to count and how to put things in appropriate groups. After the students have added the desired number of each shape, you could have the students use the pen tool to write on each shape to count the number of shapes.

Next, you could have the students use the record button to record themselves counting each group of shapes. Lastly, as they are practicing their counting and grouping with blocks, encourage students to take picture of their blocks in groups with them counting them.

2. Adding by Counting On

Adding by Counting On

Counting On is a strategy kids use to add numbers. Kids start using this strategy when they are able to conceptualize numbers.

When all the students are finished, you can combine all the students examples into one book and share it with your class.

Counting On is a beginning mental-math strategy for addition. It is generally taught as an introductory mental-math strategy and is usually very easy for students to grasp. The chances are good that some or many of your students are already using this strategy without knowing it. Students can use text boxes, shape tools, and/or the pen tool to demonstrate mastery of adding by counting on.

Students can create one page to contribute to the class book on "Adding by Counting On."

For an "Adding by Count On" activity, students can develop and demonstrate their adding skills by using their previous knowledge of counting.

Use blocks, toys, shapes, etc. as hands-on manipulatives to learn how to add. Encourage your students to take pictures of them practicing their adding by counting on and incorporate them into their books. Students can also use the shape tool, pen tool, and text tool to create problems to practice their adding.
