Arrays show repeated addition! Lets see with the equation 3 X 4.
4
3
= 12
We can say the stars are 3 sets of 4 OR 4 + 4 + 4 which is 12
4
But, what if we said this shows 4 sets of 3 or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 instead? The answer would still be 12...
3
This is correct!!
Because of the COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY. The commutative property of multiplication states that two numbers can be multiplied in either order.
So, 4 X 3= 12 AND 3 X 4= 12. Both ways are correct!
So, 4 X 3= 12 AND 3 X 4= 12. Both ways are correct!
