Partitioning is when you take apart the number and then add it up again.

The lowest common factor is 2 so you divide both numbers by 2

3d(+2.5)=12 3d+7.5=12 3d=4.5 d=1.5

4(y-9)=4 4y-36=4 4y=40 y=10

8(z+3)=40 8z+24=40 8z=16 z=2

You make them all have the same denominator and then order them

27 5

2 5

See how many times 5 goes into 27. It goes in 5 times with two left over. 

Remember to cross out the remainder when you are adding up

Remember to add the zero because you are multiplying by ten

Finding a fraction of an amount which the numerator is greater than 1

30% increase of £590= 10% of £590= £59 30% of £590= £177 New price =£767

30% decrease of £590= 10% of £590= £59 30% of £590= £177 New price =£413

Negative numbers get a bit strange because when you add a negative number to a negative number you are pretty much subtracting. -39 -(40) = -79

Adding negative numbers is a bit easier. 36+(-85)= -49
