“Kill him!”, the crowd shouts. I look away then do what I have to do. After the fight I took my prize money and headed home.
“Hey, Argus!” I hear, It’s my friend Bellator who was also captured in the Cretan war and became a gladiator.
“Hi Bellator.” I say
“Who did you fight? Oh wait, I have to go,” he replied
“Bye,” I say. I walk the rest of the way home. When I open the door my son,
Galo, jumps on me. I hug him and start heading to my wife, Thalia, who is tending to Kassandra. I hold up a piece of my suit to reveal a wound. Thalia starts stitching it. An hour later we had dinner.
Galo asked, “Will you teach me how to fight?” I almost choked. I managed to swallow it, I sputtered, “Let me talk to your mom.” After we tucked the kids in, I started talking to Thalia about teaching Galo.
“He should be able to defend himself.” She said.
“Too dangerous,” I said.
“Even if you don't teach him, he will become a gladiator.” She argued.

“No,” I said, “I refuse to do anything that will put our children in danger.” And every day was like the one before.

“Fine,'' I said. The next morning I woke up Galo at 6. We did some exercises before I went into the coliseum. I found Bellator by the gladiator entrance. Something was wrong because I knew Bellator didn't fight. I went up to him.
I geared up and headed into the arena. Someone shouted, “In today’s matchup we have Argus and Athima!” We started fighting. She charged at me with full force. I dodged it and found myself with a xiphos at her throat and like that yesterday repeated, the crowd screamed at me to kill her. I looked away to slice.
I arrived home and knocked on the door, and Bellator opened it. We tucked the kids in for the night. After, Bellator and I filled her in.
“The colosseum is looking for new gladiators and they are adding Galo and Titus,” Bellator said.
“Why Galo?” asked Thalia.
“They picked Galo because he is the son of Argus.” Bellator replied, “We should escape.”
“Too risky,” Thalia said.
“We don’t have another choice,” argued Bellator.

“We should stay” I decided.
“Fine,” Bellator groaned.
We all slept, I was awoken by a scream. I ran in to find soldiers holding our sons.
“Leave them alone!” I shouted.
A soldier chuckled, “Come to the colosseum where you will fight.” I let them leave but I woke up Thalia and Bellator.
“Wake up!” I shouted. “The soldiers have taken Galo and Titus!”
“Wait what!” They shouted.
Bellator said, “We should have escaped! I don’t want to kill Titus.”
“What if we don’t kill them? We could let them kill us,” I said
“You're just going to let them kill you,” Thalia screamed.
“He’s right,” Bellator said.
“I’ll miss you so much.” Thalia cried.
“Me too,” I said.
I stayed up all night. The next morning I head to the colosseum praying for my safety.

We charge at each other, he takes a xiphos and throws it and takes the chance to tackle while I am distracted. He takes a kopis and aims it at my throat. I look at Galo, he looks at me. “You made me proud,” I say.

I wish there was another way where I didn’t have to kill my dad. It has been 5 years since he died. I’m standing at his grave with my mom and Kassandra who placed flowers on his grave.
