Freestyle assignment 1.

In this week's freestyle assignment I decided to write about the first episode in a new series called ‘The last of us’ which is based on a best selling video game. The story happens in 2023 in a post-apocalyptic world where a fungi has evolved and is now able to take control of people and make them do their bidding. Take the things I’m about to write lightly because I’m not gonna research but just write what I think are facts from my knowledge of this topic!. Some types of fungi can infect a host which often are ants, beetles and other small bugs and somehow make them move and do what the fungi orders the host to do. If I remember correctly it can, for example, or for some types of fungi, make the host move to a specific terrain where the fungi has everything it needs to continue its life cycle or to infect a new host because the host can also be the fungi’s source for food. The point of me writing this is to explain how scary the idea is if fungi would evolve and could take humans as hosts and what is going on in the show.
In the beginning of the episode the year is 1968 and we are watching a television show were a host is interviewing two professors about bacteria, viruses and pandemics when one of the professors says that it’s not the viruses he’s afraid of, it’s the possibility that if the temperature of the earth would rise, the fungi would have a reason to evolve and the possibility could rise that fungi could infect humans. He also goes into details about what fungi’s are capable of and what were to be expected if the scenario he tells us about were to happen. After that scene we go to the year 2003 where we meet the main character of the show, Joel Miller and also his daughter. They seem to live a simple and happy life when the things that the professor talked about from the interview from 1968 start happening. Things go very quickly south for the human race and after a very exciting intro into the first episode we go to the year 2023, where Joel Miller is now a smuggler in Boston where a government mandated curfew has been put in place because of a resistance called the ‘Fireflies’. I’m not going to go into further details since this is a brand new tv-show and maybe you are interested in giving it a go.

What I learned from writing about this topic and doing this freestyle assignment are the words ‘government mandated curfew’. I wanted to use martial law but since there is no army in this post apocalyptic world I had to find a better fitting word for it. I also had to brush the dust off my skills in writing in English since I don’t do that very often and I also had to google the difference between ‘wich’ and ‘which’

Freestyle assignment 2.

What I want to write about in this current
affairs project is a personal current affair. I want to write about the three different
professional tool makers and who comes on top and why you should think about
buying tools from them. In my opinion Milwaukee is the best but everyone has
their favorite. The competing producers in the project are Dewalt, Makita and
Milwaukee.

Let’s start talking about the original boxes
that the tools come in. Here Dewalt is easily the winner. The tools come in a
case called ‘T-Stak’ which is a sturdy case and you can easily stack them
together. There are latches on the lid of the case that clamps onto the next
one and it’s really easy to take them apart. You can also buy custom cases for
your T-Stak stack like a case with drawers for example. Dewalt is also the only
one with custom cases that work with the original cases. In second place is Milwaukee.
They have decent original cases that you can clamp to the next case and easily
unclamp them but the plastic feels cheap and I doubt that they will survive
long on the work site. They have nice metal latches for lid so that’s a bonus
for them. In third place is Makita with their horrible original cases. They
have two snap on plastic clamps to close the lid but when you want to stack
them together you have to use four of them, two in the front, two on the sides
and to unclamp them you most often have to use tools like a knife or a
screwdriver to get these clamps off. The plastic in them is decent tho.
