For this Freestyle assignment, I decided to watch a movie about The Swimmers, and I really enjoyed it.
The first part of the film was about the sister’s life in Syria. The normal teenage parts of their lives for example going to swimming classes when their dad used to teach them, playing at the pool, having birthday parties and partying with friends. But all these normal things they used to do were affected by the violence in Syria, as they experienced the loss of their friends and family from bombings.
How they traveled between Syria and Germany. They made a big decision by fleeing without their family and I can’t imagine how hard that would be for The Mardini sisters. Yusra and Sara and their cousin Nizar first travel to Turkey, where they cross the Aegean Sea in a dangerously small boat with other refugees where the Mardini sisters swam for many hours so that the boat wouldn’t sink. They traveled from Serbia to Hungary where Yusra gets raped by Hungaranian man where her sister Yusra comes to rescue by pushing the man of her sister and he punches her and that where his boss caught him. They were supposed to get on some truck that goes to Germany, Yusra refused to get on the truck because she was afraid that something bad happens to her and her sister, and obviously they didn’t get on the truck because Yusra couldn’t, so they walk to some hotel and slept their at one night, the morning after they get a pretty good news that there was a bus that goes to Berlin in a safely way, it was one of their happiest moments ever. Where they find temporary housing at local refugee camp. Were they looking for a swimming club somewhere nearby? Yusra convinces a local swim coach, Sven, to train her and Sara. Yusra and Sara are informed that they will not be able to apply for asylum for the rest of their family. Yusra her keeps focus on her training, while Sara becomes more interested in her new social life. Sven told Yusra with an opportunity to join an Olympic team for refugees, Yusra was hoping to Compete for Syria, she refuses at first but eventually agrees with encouragement from Sara. Yusra qualifies for the team and makes it to the 2016 Olympics RIO de Janeiro. While she faces stigma for being refugee. She ultimately proves merit as an athlete.

The Report
I decided to watch a movie about The Swimmers, because l really like that movie, I been watching it several times before. The movie starts when the sisters were playing at the pool and when they went home, their family were celebrating a birthday party for Yusra, and their dad was talking about how proud he was of Yusra and far she became and she will one day go to the Olympics, that he had his three daughters who will be swimming in the Olympics. The sisters kept going to their swimming classes at the pool with their dad until one day Yusra was competing in Syria when there was an explosion and there was a bomb that felt in the pool while Yusra was competing and her dad, and sister jumps into the pool and get her because she froze when she saw the bomb fall into the pool while swimming.

At the same time The sisters talk to their dad to go to Germany because of the bombing and also the other swimmers were going to Berlin, their dad refused at first but he thought a while what is the best for his girls and he finally agreed because Yusra said if you let us go I will keep practicing and tell people that I wanted to swim for Syria in the Olympics, but that was the truth Yusra always dreamt to go to the Olympics when she competed in RIO de Janeiro Olympics and won gold at 2016 when she was 18 years old, and she also competed at Tokyo Olympics 2021 were she is 20 years old. I really enjoyed the movie about The Swimmers and I felt a little empathy, I kind of connected to the culture and the actors. One of the actors is Egyptian where I used to live and watched him in the movies back there. He was supposed to be their cousin in the movie.

In the end, Yusra and Sara’s parents managed to escape Syria and now they all live in Germany now. Yusra continues to excel at swimming and is an inspiration and a voice for refugees across the world. Meanwhile Sara ended up working to rescue refugees in Lesbos. A very happy ending.

What I learned words that I picked up:
Asylum= Hæli   Encouragement= Hvatning
I also practiced my reading and listening skills. I actually listened, but they were also speaking Arabic, which I really enjoyed because I understand the language very well. I also love the fact that she made it to the Olympics, because I want to go to the Olympics one day

Freestyle assignment 2
For my second freestyle assignment. I wanted to do a poem about feelings, and what I’ve understood about it, but actually the reason why I wanted to do a poem is because I felt lost, and helpless for my sister’s. That I couldn’t help them anymore. That I never was a good enough sister to them, that I wanted to help them to be the best version of themselves, that I feel horrible sometimes, that I’ve never been perfect, and I would never be perfect. In this world we do so many things that we regret in our life, and that we could’ve been better, and we keep telling ourselves why I’m not good enough, I can’t do this because of this or him or her. These days there are so many people teasing themselves for not being good enough, not having their dream body or not being able to be in the perfect shape. We shame ourselves for the past. But we have to live for the future because the past will kill us, drown us with tears, suffer us of pain, and lose someone we love. That’s life we lose somebody we meet somebody that’s life:)
Feelings are like a prison
All you have to do is
 to get rid of them
or keep them with you
Love feelings I want to reconcile
 and learn more about you
I want to help you out like
 I want to help others
as you can do the same to me
I support you endlessly
forever no matter
 How much you
 can hurt me
But I will never hurt you
 love feelings talk to me
I will love you more
 than you love me
I will be there for you more
than you have been there for me
I will never ever leave you
my love feelings I want to be with you
no matter how much sadness, joy
and the worst things we’ve been through together
I will always be here
but people will come and go
but I will always be here
FOR YOU:)

Freestyle assignment 2
The Report
I decided to do a short poem because I felt a little sad and that I’ve missed my sisters very much, and about what’s been going on in my life, and how it's been going with me and my sister’s. For not being able to live together and not seeing each other as much as we want.

What words I picked up:
Reconcile= Sættast
I practiced my writing skills and reading skills by reading the text over and over again. I’m so happy that I’ve let my feelings out in my poem. I’m really grateful for doing it.
