Wow, that's a lot of artists!

Did you know all the names in bold are also seniors?

I am a professor at Stockton University. I created this book as a way to feature the artwork of students in one of the courses I teach in our General Studies curriculum called "The Art & Math of Origami". Normally, I host an actual show on campus! Due to the pandemic, I made the decision to shift to a completely virtual format.

If you don't know about Stockton University yet, I recommend checking out our website! We are ranked among the top public universities in the Northeast . Our campus is about 1 hour from Philadelphia and two hours from New York City! As you can see from the photo, the main campus is surrounded by 1,600 acres within the Pineland National Reserve. We recently added a beach-side campus in Atlantic City, only a ten minute drive from our main campus in Galloway!

The Origami art featured in this book was prepared by students in the course, GNM 2257 The Art & Math of Origami. Through this course, students explore the art of Origami including the language, notation, and its use as a form of artistic expression. Within this process, interdisciplinary connections are made to several areas including culture, history, and mathematics.

This book features each student's personal Origami collection. A student is responsible to select the models and create them on their own. Within this process, students are given five categories they must relate models to including:
- a mathematical model
-a model made of unique material
-a challenging model (for their level)
-a model of choice (just for fun or because it has meaning)
-a model they instruct to others

The next several pages features our themed collection of Origami art. The theme is selected and illustrated by the students in assigned teams. Their challenge is to express the theme through Origami. This year's theme is colors!

Though we were not able to produce the full size displays that are normally part of an actual art show on campus, I thought students found a way to still express their theme and personality!

The Adventures of the Hungry Caterpillar

Our story begins with our hungry hungry caterpillar. When waking up this morning, he decided that he was incredibly hungry. after some thought he decided that not just any food would do though. For some reason only foods that were green would be enough to satisfy his stomach today.

The caterpillar came across some yummy grass to eat. So it ate and ate and ate until there was no more grass.

The caterpillar came across some tart unripe strawberries... but he really wanted green foods and he was so hungry he could eat anything! He gobbled them up and continued on his way.

Even after our hungry hungry caterpillar had eaten all of the different foods the forrest had to offer, he was still hungry until he stumbled across a picnic table laid out with green pears hanging from some nearby trees.

After eating all the pears that he found on the ground, the Caterpillar crawled away still hungry until he found some delicious looking green apples on the ground. He thought to himself, "Look at those apples just waiting to be eaten, might as well stop for a little snack."
