Today, I went to Mr. Brown's class to ask him a few questions for the class spotlight.

My first question for Mr. Brown was, "What made you wanna start teaching middle school civics?", he replied with "so I can always know what's going on in politics."

My second question for Mr. Brown was, "What do you enjoy about teaching middle school civics?", he replied with the saying, "Because I love to see the light in them switch on from someone who says "I didn't get it".

My last question for Mr. Brown was, "What would the students be surprised to find out about you ", he replied with, "I love to watch anime when I have the time".

Indian Crested Porcupine
Four-toed hedgehog
The Indian crested porcupine is a rodent species native to southern Asia and the Middle East. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It belongs to the Old World porcupine family, Hystricidae. The New World porcupines are indigenous to North America and northern South America. They live in wooded areas and can climb trees, where some species spend their entire lives. Indian crested porcupines have a very broad and mostly herbivorous diet. They consume a variety of natural and agricultural plant material, including roots, bulbs, fruits, grains, drupe and tubers, along with insects and small vertebrates. The porcupine is best known for the sharp quills that cover its body. A slow moving, medium-sized mammal, the porcupine has poor eyesight and relies on its sense of hearing and smell, as well as its quills to avoid predators. But overall the Indian Crested Porcupine is a unique animal with amazing talent.
The four-toed hedgehog, is a species of hedgehog found throughout much of central and eastern Africa. Populations tend to be scattered between suitable savannah or cropland habitats, avoiding forested areas. The species common name is derived from the number of toes found on its hind feet. They are omnivores which diet consist of vegetation and meat. Four-toed hedgehogs feed primarily on insects in the wild. They also consume small reptiles and amphibians , eggs, invertebrates such as scorpions, spiders, and insects, and small mammals and birds. A small part of their diet consists of plant material including fruit, seeds, and nuts. Four-toed hedgehogs can live 8-10 years in captivity and 2-3 years in the wild. Hedgehogs have a trick up their, errr, “sleeve” to give themselves extra protection “self anointing.” These amazing animals are immune to certain poisonous plants, which they eat before making a frothy saliva in their mouth. The Four-toed Hedgehog is a very unique and adorable creature with a great skill.

WPTV
At Channel 5
Words by Michael Venelus
Today, the GSOTA news crew and the GSOTA magazine crew went to WPTV-Channel 5 station. Imagine a very big workplace that over 100 of people could work at the same time and It was so quiet and peaceful( until we showed up).

We learned about a lot of stuff including green screens, things about broadcast meteorologists, and the control room. They said that green screens are green because green blocks out a lot of colors. We met some broadcast meteorologists and they said that they do the things behind the scenes and make the forecast. They also talked about streaming which is someone's thing is playing on the news but they are not there physically. We also went through the control room and they said that it is the most important room because they make the news go live and work on the graphics. They showed us the live cameras that see stuff on the streets if anything happens.

They told us that they get their money from selling 30 seconds blocks of time. The last room they showed us was a big room with a lot of stuff, they said they use the room for commercial production and it was very expendable.

Well that was our experience at WPTV-Channel 5 News. Thank you for reading my page on the magazine and if you like stuff like this stay tuned because we do this every week. I'm Michael, signing out.
