The Indian crested porcupine is a rodent species native to southern Asia and the Middle East. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It belongs to the Old World porcupine family, Hystricidae. The New World porcupines are indigenous to North America and northern South America. They live in wooded areas and can climb trees, where some species spend their entire lives. Indian crested porcupines have a very broad and mostly herbivorous diet. They consume a variety of natural and agricultural plant material, including roots, bulbs, fruits, grains, drupe and tubers, along with insects and small vertebrates. The porcupine is best known for the sharp quills that cover its body. A slow moving, medium-sized mammal, the porcupine has poor eyesight and relies on its sense of hearing and smell, as well as its quills to avoid predators. But overall the Indian Crested Porcupine is a unique animal with amazing talent.

The four-toed hedgehog, is a species of hedgehog found throughout much of central and eastern Africa. Populations tend to be scattered between suitable savannah or cropland habitats, avoiding forested areas. The species common name is derived from the number of toes found on its hind feet. They are omnivores which diet consist of vegetation and meat. Four-toed hedgehogs feed primarily on insects in the wild. They also consume small reptiles and amphibians , eggs, invertebrates such as scorpions, spiders, and insects, and small mammals and birds. A small part of their diet consists of plant material including fruit, seeds, and nuts. Four-toed hedgehogs can live 8-10 years in captivity and 2-3 years in the wild. Hedgehogs have a trick up their, errr, “sleeve” to give themselves extra protection “self anointing.” These amazing animals are immune to certain poisonous plants, which they eat before making a frothy saliva in their mouth. The Four-toed Hedgehog is a very unique and adorable creature with a great skill.
