Welcome to Padstow School Reception class!

The classroom door will open at 8.35am and the children will start their morning activities as soon as they arrive. Children need to be in school by 8.45am, after this time attendance is marked as late. Reception class have a healthy balanced snack provided every morning, such as fruit and milk. Please let us know if we should be aware of any food allergies or specific dietary requirements that your child may have.It is essential for children's health and wellbeing that they keep hydrated throughout the day, so we ask that you provide a named water bottle for your child that we can refill as needed throughout the day. Lunch is between 11.55am and 12.55pm. The school day ends at 3.15pm. Please note: For the safety of your child we must know who is picking them up. If you are not collecting your child yourself, please let the teacher or office know who is coming in your place. We cannot let children go home with someone unless you have authorised us to do so.

I love seeing my friends and making things in Creative Creek.

I love learning lots. I am so good at my sounds now!

I love building towers and castles and zoos in Story Land. I like playing outside with my friends too!

Welcome to Padstow School on behalf of all of us, children and adults! At our school, children are valued as individuals whilst being encouraged to learn and grow together, building every child's confidence in a safe and happy environment. We understand the importance of the Reception year. We value the fact that every child is unique, aiming to celebrate and promote their particular skills, strengths and individuality. We also aim to support the children in all of their learning and to give them a secure foundation to build upon as they progress through school. Reception children are both curious and eager to learn, so we want to capture those qualities of curiosity and enthusiasm in a kind, caring and safe environment, encouraging them to question and discover as they go. We love learning through stories at school. The adults are always reading us stories throughout the day. Stories have so much to offer; they develop listening and communication skills, improve concentration and memory, bring experiences a love, create a sense of wonder and help sequence events. Enjoy listening to Miss Barnard and Mrs Bray read some of our favourite stories.

At&nbsp;Padstow School and Nursery our whole school philosophy "Embark on a journey to discover your future" is&nbsp;introduced right at the start of the nursery journey. We embed a shared vision for our pupils to work hard, enjoy learning and reach their goals.&nbsp; Within the EYFS our philosophy is to make a difference so children can embrace the wider world with confidence.

Miss Barnard is the class teacher in Puffin class and our EYFS lead for the school. She is an experienced teacher with years of working within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Mrs Bray will be the class teaching assistant, along with additional members of our EYFS/KS1 team who will support the teaching and learning using their specialist Early Years knowledge.

Welcome to Padstow School Reception 2024-25

At Padstow School, our EYFS environment enables children to become fully immersed in purposeful play of their own choosing and interest. Our outdoor and indoor areas allow for learning in all areas of development, but the two environments do not mirror each other. The neutrality of our indoor environment aims to support children's ability to regulate their thoughts, feelings an emotions, whilst pursuing activities which require small and/or perishable equipment and resources that would not survive the outdoor elements. Our children initiate their own learning and the adults join them, supporting and teaching, in the context of their play. This time is known to the children as 'Discover and Do' time. In order to facilitate our children's independence, we have adopted a workshop-style environment. The areas have individual names such Creative Creek and Story Land to help us with our daily adventures. The resources are available and accessible to the children at all times.

The EYFS curriculum is organised into 7 areas of learning. The 3 prime areas are: - Communication &amp; language - Physical development - Personal, social &amp; emotional development The 4 specific areas are: - Literacy - Mathematics - Understanding the world - Expressive arts &amp; design

The children's sessions are organised to include each of these areas, often through a topic or theme. Children will mainly learn through practical activities; they will also have more structured times to their day such as phonics or carpet time.

At Padstow School we aim to provide after-school clubs for a range of interests: from choir to rugby, art to football. These vary from one term to another. We do not currently offer wrap-around care.

The "Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning" are at the heart of the Early Years curriculum and explore the different ways in which children learn. They highlight the importance of playing and learning, active learning, and thinking critically. All the learning experiences we plan for the children allow them to utilise and develop these skills. We believe that, in order to access all areas of school life, the children should be encouraged to persevere, be resilient, try new things and challenge themselves.

At Padstow, we believe every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to get off to a flying start in their education and fulfil their potential. We recognise that children develop quickly in their early years, and a child's experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. We understand that a secure, safe and happy childhood is important in it's own right. Within the Early Years Foundation Stage at Padstow School, we intend to provide ALL children with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to develop into independent, well-rounded, informed individuals, who are able to access and build on the learning opportunities that are provided for them later on in their school career. We teach children individually, in small groups, and as a whole class. Through a combination of teacher input and continuous provision opportunities, learning is planned to encourage children to develop their learning independently through exploration and challenge.

Trauma Informed Schools UK is a registered community interest company working in association with the Centre for Child Mental Health. It provides training to ensure that every adult in a school or community has the skills and understanding to respond appropriately to the relational and emotional needs children may display. TiS supports schools to create a mentally healthy environment and culture in which all within the school community, adults and children alike, can flourish and achieve. It advocates a whole school response and evidenced based relational approaches to provide an enriched environment to buffer the impact of stress that may&#160;result from adversity and painful life events. In addition, specially trained Trauma and Mental Health Informed Practitioners offer targeted intervention&#160;to&#160;children who may be experiencing challenges within their life that without support may act as a barrier to&#160;their ability to fully engage with life and learning.&#160;

Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning

Playing and Exploring: Children investigate, experience things and 'have a go!'. (Exploring Elephant, Go-For-It Gorilla and I know Rhino are used to help the children identify and understand when they are showing these characteristics). Active Learning: Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements. (Persevering Parrot, Proud Peacock and Concentrating Crocodile are used to help the children identify and understand when they are showing these characteristics). Creating and Thinking Critically: Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things. (Slinky-Linky Snake, Choosing Chimp and Creative Chameleon are used to help the children identify and understand when they are showing these characteristics).

Tapestry is an easy-to-use and secure online learning journal that helps staff and families across Aspire academies celebrate their children&#8217;s learning and development both at school and home. &#160; Tapestry facilitates this by enabling a personal journal that builds over time. Photographs, videos and notes of special moments will be made available regularly to you via your iPhone or Android App. &#160; More details on how to activate your Tapestry account will be shared once your child starts.

My child enjoys learning. She looks forward to playing with her friends and she enjoys the outside area. She loves the teachers.

Very happy with his teachers and class mates, loves outdoor learning weekly too!

We are informed on a regular basis of their learning on tapestry and notes in reading books.

Nice environment to learn in, friendly staff, good friendships, different learning environments keep it interesting eg. Outdoor learning.

Padstow School compulsory uniform consists of:&nbsp; • Maroon school jumper, school cardigan or school sweatshirt • White polo shirt (no need for logo) • Dark grey trousers or shorts (please note that leggings should not be worn instead of&nbsp;trousers) • Dark grey skirt or pinafore • Plain black/grey tights or black/grey/white socks In summer, a blue checked dress can be worn instead.

Sweatshirts, jumpers, cardigans, polo shirts and PE kit can all be warn without the school logo. If you would like uniform that is embroidered with the school name can be&nbsp;ordered directly from <a href="https://www.wovina.com/collections/padstow-school-18-c">Wovina</a>. They can also be tried on &amp; purchased locally from Vivienne's in Wadebridge.

Here's an example of the varied and healthy menu cooked fresh in our kitchen by the Aspens catering team. The meals follow a 3-week rolling menu. All children in Reception class up until the end of Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal every day.

Every academy within the Aspire Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. &#160; We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy. &#160; Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
