CHAPTER 1
The First Kill
The town of Lincoln Square Chicago, Illinois was a fairly safe neighborhood. I mean there was a missing necklace or a few stolen donuts at Alberto's Italian bakery but other than that it was almost perfect. In fact, the town was even nicknamed "Heaven city"! But that all changed one day.
"Honey!" said Mrs. Johnson the mother of Sage and James happily married to Mr.Johnson. "Yes'm?" Replied Mr. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson dropped the local newspaper on the dining table. Mr. Johnson stared at the newspaper wide-eyed. "What's wrong?" James asked confused. Sage flips her newly done box braids saying bluntly, "Stay out of grown folk's business". "Shut up!" James says annoyed. "James don't be rude to your little sister." Mrs. Johnson says. "He's not that much older than me!" Sage says whining.
"Got to bed children you need rest for school." Mrs.Johnson said with a long sigh. James and Sage pretend to go upstairs but really crouch down on the steps out of sight. "5 children?!" "What sick person would kill 5 CHILDREN?!" Mr.Johnson said angrily. They were about the kids age too. And no one would even bat an eye if a few black children were found dead. And they were missing for weeks WEEKS before found!" Mr.Johnson said in disappointment.
Sage and James carefully snuck up into their rooms restless to see if they were next. However, there were eager to learn the full story and why the town kept it under wraps in the first place. But James was especially worried he grew up in this town boring but at least safe and hope for a little thrill a little danger. But he never wanted this.

But of course, time stops for no man and every kid still had to go to school. When they woke up James was really eager to talk to his friends Andrew and Olivia about what he heard last night. Although he couldn't show how he felt because his parents would be curious and he technically was supposed to be in bed when his parents were talking about how those 5 kids went missing. But Sage was just sitting there thinking about how she could have been one of those kids.
When James and Sage got to school they went there separate ways to talk to their friends. When James got to his friends he was so excited to talk to them that he completely ignored what they were talking about. "Hey, we were talking!" Olivia yells at James. "Oh, sorry I didn't realize." James says apologetically. "It's alright, I guess." Andrew says restlessly. "What were you guys talking about?" James asked curiously. "Well since you wanna know, Andrew was telling me about how he was friends with one of the kids that went missing. "Olivia says nonchalantly "WHAT!?" "You're just gonna say that so casually." James said surprised on how calm Olivia was talking about what happened. "I mean yeah, we talked about it a lot before you came here." Olivia answers directly. "Yall talked about all this without-" *Bell rings.* "me..." James says defeated. "Well guess we gotta go to class now." Andrew says sorrowfully.

*Before the bell rang Sage also talked to her friends.* "Yall here what happened yesterday?" Sage asks her friends. "No, what happened?" Rebecca (Sage's friend) asks curiously. "Some kids went missing and they were proclaimed dead." "I don't really think they are actually dead though, it just seems really sketchy to me how someone could kill all those kids and get away with it." Sage says seriously. "Yeah what you're saying does seem kinda sketchy" Jabari (Sage's friend) says concerned. "But what can we do now isn't not like there alive somewhere in hiding right?" Rebecca said jokingly trying to bring a little joy in a melancholy situation.
The Bell rang and Jabari and Sage departed from Rebecca and headed to class. All day however Sage kept thinking about Rebecca's comment. I mean she didn't think those kids were alive but she did think there was more to the story than what the police said. But she knew trying to investigate was crazy so she just left her thoughts as thoughts and tried to ignore it. James on the other hand was still scared he could have easily been one of those kids. But it wasn't just him the whole town, no, the whole state seemed to be shook! And they didn't know if the guys was dead, or arrested, or even what he looked like.
