The town of Lincoln Square Chicago, Illinois was a fairly safe neighborhood. I mean there was a missing necklace or a few stolen donuts at Alberto's Italian bakery but other than that it was almost perfect. In fact, the town was even nicknamed "Heaven city"! But that all changed one day.
"Honey!" said Mrs. Johnson the mother of Sage and James happily married to Mr.Johnson. "Yes'm?" Replied Mr. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson dropped the local newspaper on the dining table. Mr. Johnson stared at the newspaper wide-eyed. "What's wrong?" James asked confused. Sage flips her newly done box braids saying bluntly, "Stay out of grown folk's business". "Shut up!" James says annoyed. "James don't be rude to your little sister." Mrs. Johnson says. "He's not that much older than me!" Sage says whining.
"Got to bed children you need rest for school." Mrs.Johnson said with a long sigh. James and Sage pretend to go upstairs but really crouch down on the steps out of sight. "5 children?!" "What sick person would kill 5 CHILDREN?!" Mr.Johnson said angrily. They were about the kids age too. And no one would even bat an eye if a few black children were found dead. And they were missing for weeks WEEKS before found!" Mr.Johnson said in disappointment.
Sage and James carefully snuck up into their rooms restless to see if they were next. However, there were eager to learn the full story and why the town kept it under wraps in the first place. But James was especially worried he grew up in this town boring but at least safe and hope for a little thrill a little danger. But he never wanted this.
