Dear Colleagues,

As we reflect on the first 6 months of the Thames Gateway TSH we have so much to celebrate!

Hundreds of colleagues have signed up to embark on new opportunities with us, as together we navigate the new landscape for professional development being embedded by the DfE. These new opportunities to support teachers and leaders at every level have only been made possible by the incredible work of our facilitators, mentors and coaches. Thank you to all those who have stepped up to share their own experiences and expertise with others across the wider system. Thank you too to all those who are supporting learning day to day in school. It is this constant embedding of learning which makes the process so effective. We are looking forward to providing further opportunities for these colleagues to reflect and gain additional tools to support your work over the coming months.

Our highly anticipated Regional Conferences for ECTs and their mentors take place over the coming weeks. We are so pleased to be able to resume face to face delivery and to meet in person after much of our delivery has been online. We are also pleased to be welcoming over 300 colleagues joining us for the Spring cohorts of our NPQ programmes. In total over 600 colleagues are taking a fully funded NPQ course with us this academic year.

These next 6 months provide us with opportunity to continue to refine our offer and the responses to our recent survey have enabled us to respond to specific feedback. We are so grateful for the opportunity to hear from colleagues across our networks, please do stay in touch!

Feedback

Thank you so much to the 181 colleagues who took the time to complete our first feedback survey. It was so useful to hear your reflections and we were extremely grateful for the ideas this generated. We have spent time responding to the areas raised and have implemented a number activities including further briefings and training sessions over the coming months.

As well as the next steps we were delighted to hear some extremely positive feedback, thank you to all who passed on such encouraging messages!

I think that the TGTSH team has done an amazing job in rolling out and supporting so many new Government initiatives in such a short length of time, often with very little preparation period. Thank you!

Views are constantly sought to ensure that the TGTSH are meeting the needs of schools in the partnership.

Appropriate Body

Progress Review 2 is now open and ready for completion by Induction Tutors on ECT Manager. This review is due on 18.03.22. Thank you to all colleagues who joined us for the ‘Progress Review Updated Guidance’ training on 01.03.33. A recording of this training can be found here.

Additionally the guidance document for completing these reviews has also been updated to reflect the moderation process and in response to colleagues asking for further examples of good practice. Please find 4 examples of Progress Review commentaries in this updated document.

A reminder that all ECT’s must be registered with an Appropriate Body as soon as they start Induction in your schools. Please contact us to discuss any new ECT’s you have joining you.

Early Career Framework

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Online Regional Conferences in January. It was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to work with over 300 colleagues across the two events including both Mentors and ECT’s.

Early Career Framework

We are now excited to work with all other colleagues who did not attend the online events. We have missed the opportunity to work with colleagues in person and were looking forward to welcoming you to Kent County Showground for a full day CPD event in March to support your personal development at your particular career stage. We are anticipating welcoming nearly 400 colleagues at these events. A reminder that this is a mandatory part of your ECF based Induction work and if you haven't booked onto the ECT or Mentor live conference you should do so as a matter of urgency via your online platform.

We value your feedback; several colleagues asked for further opportunities to develop the Mentoring role in their schools. This is a pivotal role in the ECF rollout and the professional skills developed by Mentors during the induction period are valuable to both the school and individual. In response to this particular area of feedback we are happy to announce some upcoming training events to further develop Mentoring in your schools.

National Professional Qualifications

This week sees the start of our February cohorts across the whole suite of NPQs. We are extremely proud of the fact we work with learning clusters across Kent to provide a wide variety of locations and course options. We would like to say a huge thank you to all our Clusters for their ongoing support and dedication to providing the best possible NPQ experience for our delegates. We are delighted that over 600 delegates have chosen to work with Thames Gateway TSH and LLSE to undertake their NPQ.

Last month saw our first professional development session aimed at in-school coaches across the suite of NPQs. This support is the start of a range of offers we will be presenting to ensure your NPQ delegates are supported both through the course and in their role in school.

We are delighted that our team of highly skilled facilitators is growing, not only are they contributing to the leadership journeys of colleagues across Kent, they also receive high level coaching and facilitation training from LLSE, and are able to share their knowledge and skills with delegates.

Charli Napier a experienced facilitator on the Leading Teacher programme recently commented ‘I am really enjoying facilitating the new NPQLT. It is a really interesting and research led course, and our fantastic cohort are really valuing the knowledge they are gaining, and also the opportunity to explore this together. Our cohort have become a real learning community and we are very much enjoying being on this journey with them.’

Lastly a reminder that two new NPQs are being introduced in September 2022, they are Leading Literacy and Early Years Leadership, their addition will mean delegates can choose from 4 Specialist NPQs and 4 Leadership NPQs.

Online Webinar with Sam Kary - Integrating Technology in the Classroom

15 March 2022, 4.30 - 6.00 pm

In order to redesign our classrooms to meet the needs of today’s students and prepare them for our rapidly changing world, it’s vital that we integrate technology in education. Yet technology in and of itself can’t transform learning: true transformation only takes place when we leverage the power of technology to put research-based instructional practices in place.

In this session, we’ll explore several high-impact, technology-integrated instructional strategies you can use in order to design relevant, engaging, 21st-century classrooms where students apply higher-order thinking skills in the 4 Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

Teaching students how to create with technology, not just consume it, as well as how to critically evaluate the information they come across in the digital world, are crucial skills not just for the future of work but also for the future well-being of our society.
