They arise as a result of long water waves. Strong tsunamis can go multiple kilometers on land and when they hit for example a building it causes a lot of damage and is very dangerous. Tsunamis can also be very harmful to people and not just buildings. Tsunamis can destroy a whole village and infrastructures and make farmland useless. More than 200.000 people have died due to tsunamis. At full speed they can go up to 800km/h
