Shakesfest 2018
2018 marks the launch of the first ever ‘Shakesfest’. ‘Shakesfest’ is an educational and aspirational performing arts competition for students across the Swale Academies Trust and its partner schools. A schools entry must incorporate scripted work from a play written by William Shakespeare,
some of the options were:
Romeo and Juliet,
Hamlet,
Macbeth,
The Merchant of Venice or
The Tempest.
Our school performed The Merchant of Venice.
How a school tackles putting on a performance is completely up to the school.
This was performed at The Birley Centre Auditorium, Eastbourne College on Tuesday, 10th July 2018; to a panel of judges.
The Eastbourne Academy won an award for the best interpretation of the play and the overall competition!

Also, we would like to thank all the staff who helped out running activities and stalls.
Thank you all for a lovely year.

Thank you all for a lovely year.
On Friday 29th of June, 40 Year 9 students and 4 members of staff set off on a trip to visit WW1 sites in Flanders, an area of Belgium. The day was a fantastic experience for all involved and really brought home what happened in Europe 100+ years ago.
Throughout the day, students were told about different experiences, battles and events that took place in the area of Belgium that they visited. These included, finding out about how a 15 year old boy called Tommy Strudwick died fighting in Belgium.
Students were able to visit both German and Commonwealth cemeteries to see how the different countries paid respect to fallen servicemen. At Tyne Cot, the students were taught how to find grave sites and names on plaques to pay respect.
The day ended with some free time in Ypres that had been completely destroyed during WW1 and rebuilt completely to the exact same specifications.

This term's Take Pride event was a baking contest. With 'fabulous tasting batten berg cake' was our grand winner from Darwin, Alistair Ewen.Town Sports
Town sports is a partnership sports day. Very similar to sports day!
People who were chosen from our school, who the P.E. teachers thought were the best athletes in school, compete against other schools.
It is a competitive event for the best athletes in and around Eastbourne not just from our school!

"I'm incredibly proud of the students that competed and represented the Academy. This was our first time entering Town Sports in many years, the students worked hard and were fantatsic Academy Ambassadors. Every student that went, tried their best, which is all we ever ask for in PE. Some of the highlights were the three Academy winners (Caitlin Prangnell- High Jump; Billy Hipperson- Shot Put and Lewis Imeraj- Long Jump), a new Shot Put record set in year 10 by Bill Hipperson, and Alfie Sayers getting a PB in High Jump (1.65m). Well done to all involved!!"

Water Sports Trip
'On Wednesday 6th June, The Eastbourne Academy students took part in a water sports trip. They took the sailing, paddle boarding and kayaking like a duck to water! With some questionable wet suit sizing, The Eastbourne Academy took to the water for a fun filled morning of learning. Students represented the academy well and thrived under pressure.' ~Mrs Hussey

Mystery Teacher:
Well done to anyone who guessed Mr Dadswell for the previous Mystery Teacher.
Now this term's Mystery Teacher:
A teacher had to teach in another classroom due to repairs in their own classroom, 109. However, once they reached her old classroom, 008, in which they were to teach that day, they noticed that there was an expensive looking lamp right where they usually put their SPHERE books and their favourite coffee cup so they decided to move it. As soon as they picked it up they realised that it was far heavier than expected, dropped it right on their foot and it smashed to pieces! They felt guilty about breaking the valuable lamp and so she packed their belongings and fled the ‘scene of the crime’.
Can you figure out who this teacher is?
