Class 1 Autumn 2 Maths

Here are some pictures of us counting using our top tips of moving the objects so you know what you have counted or putting them in a line. 

We also used some ice cube trays, egg boxes and tens frames to help us count them more easily.

We have been learning new number facts. We know that Double 1 is 2. You can say this as 1+1 = 2 as well.

Today we looked at dot patterns for number 4. We could see some patterns for 2 and 3 within the dot patterns. Here are some things we noticed!

We looked for one thing in our classroom and then another one. This made two! We then drew what we found and circled it and labelled it with the number 2.

I can see Pat has more.&#160; There are more boats. Charlotte

Today we tried not counting but subitising sounds. It was very tricky but we had a really good try. We also used dot patterns to help us identify what we heard. 

This is 2 beats and then 1 on its own. Annabelle

We explored a wide variety of objects to see if they were heavy or light. We used a set of balance scales to make comparisons between two objects. 

Heavy is when the shopping bag is full. Robyn

Today we met Magic Max the mathematician. He needed some help with his counting. The children noticed some things that Max was doing wrong with his counting and were able to talk about them.

He is going too fast. Grace If he is slow he gets it right. Edward

Maths Floorbook Week 4 Subitising

We learnt the language of heavier, lighter, heaviest and lightest. We were able to compare the weight of 2 or more things.

We went on a shape hunt at the weekend too. Both inside and outside we found lots of different shapes in all the things around us.

Today we looked at the number 3 again. We made 3 using our fingers.  We played games with our friends to see of we could make the number 3 together.  We found 2+1  and 3+0 too.

We had a go at counting sounds with our friends. It was lots of fun!

For our homework challenge we had to look for where we could find 2 of things. Here are some pictures of what we found.

We found out all about patterns. Here are some repeating patterns the children found in the classroom.  We then followed some 2 colour patterns and created our own.

Today we looked at the number 3. We held a picnic for 3 dolls as they were hungry because Golidlocks had eaten all their food.

Today we found out that you can count anything! Including sounds! Max set us a challenge to see if we could listen carefully and count what we could hear. Here is what we thought...

Today we counted some larger items in the environment. Max brought his magic wand to help him with his counting. We then had a go at counting and used magic wands too! Who knew counting could be so much fun?

We looked at shapes in the environment using some pictures. We then went on our very own shape hunt around our classroom and outdoor area.
