Class 2 Autumn 2

We have been using our interactive whiteboard in lots of different ways this term. We have created some pictures as well as used some of the 2 simple programmes. 

My christening was very special.&#160;&#160;

I was having my christening done when I was a baby. You have a christening to welcome you to God's family.&#160;

We talked about the celebration of Baptism. We looked at some photos of the children in our class who had been baptised.

We learnt a Winter poem. This is a video of us rehearsing our poem. We hope you like it!

We used our ideas to create a story map of what we thought might happen in the story, Stanley's Stick. 

FINE MOTOR ACTIVITIES

We have been practising our fine motor skills this half term including how to use scissors safely. Here are some of the activities that we have been doing.

We went out to visit our class Ash tree to see if it was similar to Stanley's. We noticed that it was tall..taller than Jasmine, but it wasn't 'Grand'. Mrs Wolfarth spotted an older Ash tree, that was definitely 'grand'. As a class we named the parts of the tree and talked about why each is important.

We have been learning about different celebrations and thought about all the different celebrations we know about. e.g. birthday, wedding, christening, Christmas, Halloween We found out that across the World there are many celebrations and festivals. They have different meanings and people enjoy them in many ways. We learnt about the story of Guy Fawkes and made firework pictures.

After reading Stanley's Stick. Stanley sent us his favourite book to read... can you guess what it was? It was Stickman! We were not surprised! Our home work challenge was to create our own stickman.

We couldn't go on an Autumn Walk as it was VERY wet! But we had an Autumn hunt in our classroom and looked for pictures that represented signs of Autumn. We used our magic magnifying glasses to look closely and then recorded what we found. Here our some examples.

We read the story of Jesus and the children and talked about the story. 

I wonder what was so special about Jesus and why the children were brought to him

I wonder what was so special about Jesus?

Because they wanted to find him and wanted to meet him because they had never seen him before.

He was born in Bethlehem and he was the son of God. I think his Mummy was special because an angel came and there was a special message.&#160;

Because he wanted people to be happy. He wanted to see the children and he wanted them to be happy.&#160;

Here are some of the things that we said about what we could do when we were a baby compared to what we can do now. 

I can remember the past. I could not talk as a baby.&#160; George

I am biggest and baby me is the smallest. Baby is in the past.&#160; Esther&#160;

Landmarks in our Local Area

Stickman sent us some photos of where he had visited in our local areas. We identified some of the landmarks and also found them on an aerial map. 

We have been learning all about ways to keep healthy, including cleaning our teeth and washing our hands. 

Edward&#160; Don't pick your nose because you might get germs on your hands.

Jasmine&#160; You need to wash your hands so the germs don't spread.&#160;

We need to clean our teeth so they don't fall out&#160; Amelia&#160;

If you eat too much food it might get stuck in your teeth so you need to keep them clean or your teeth will fall out and the tooth fairy will come but won't take dirty teeth.&#160; Stanley&#160;

Effie&#160; You need to wash the germs away that is why we wash our hands

Some of the children had some questions about the story and comments about what Christians believe.

We talked about how Christians believe that Jesus was born a baby and grew up just like we did! We talked about how our school Christmas Nativity was telling the story of Jesus's birth. 

We wanted to create some Christmas Trees but we had ran out of green paint! With only red, yellow and blue we had a try at mixing some colours to see if we could make green! 

We also know that there are other special places such as synagogues.

We have been exploring the effect of magnets and saw how they attracted certain materials but not others. We also learned the word repel as we watched the magnets push each other away. 

Leaf border

The Green dilemma drop told us a story all about food and how some foods are better for us and give us energy. The class then told Mrs W their favourite foods and we worked out if they were healthy or not.

We talked about how some foods have lots of sugar which is not good for you and some foods like vegetables can be eaten more often. 

We also know that there are other special places such as mosques.

I was holding a candle because it was my christening.&#160;

I had to light my candle from the big candle.&#160;

We took part in a toy swap for Children in Need. We have been thinking about how important it is to reduce waste and a good way to do this is to swap toys rather than throwing them out! We also dressed up in spots and took part in some Children in Need activities.

We have taken part in a Santa Dash. This was a fun way to keep fit. We moved around an obstacle course whilst listening to some Christmas Music and of course there was festive hats and tinsel! 

We have also been visited by a kind elf! He has come to keep an eye on all the children in school and see who is being very kind... the children that were spotted by the elf have received a certificate! Well done everyone!

The festival of lights, we noticed how Diwali was very much like our tradition of Christmas, dressing up, seeing family and celebrating with a meal. We really liked the Rangoli patterns and created our own. In the story we read Dipal brought flowers to decorate the temple, so we created our own versions of these!

We have been looking at some pictures of ourselves as babies and comparing them to ourselves now! We used some of our pictures to make a classroom display. Do you like it?

We then talked about how we had changed using key historical vocabulary. 

We learnt all about our local church and found out that churches are special buildings to Christians. We looked at all the things that are special in a church.

We thought about how being in a church might make us feel.
